First, Hasan revealed how the University of Birmingham have worked with The Conversation to promote their research, then Paul delved into the ways The Conversation collaborate with the global academic community to deliver the latest news directly to the public.

Boston University's student-run campaign: F*ck It Won't Cut It

Presented by Hailey McKee, Public Relations Manager, and Hannah Schweitzer, Strategist and Project Manager, Boston University F*ck It Won't Cut It campaign

The student team behind Boston University's F*ck It Won't Cut It campaign, which aimed to inspire smart behaviour and teach safe alternatives, shared their best practices in understanding target audiences, leveraging stakeholders, and being provocative with a purpose.

Meet the speakers

Hasan Patel
Communications Manager, University of Birmingham

Hasan is a communications professional with over 13 years of experience. He’s currently responsible for leading on the external strategic communications plan to promote research from the Colleges of Social Sciences & Arts and Law at the University of Birmingham, as well as looking after crisis communications and reputation management. Before joining the University, Hasan has worked for the BBC and spent eight years in Qatar working for Al Jazeera.


Paul Keaveny
Investigations Editor, The Conversation

Paul is a Investigations Editor at The Conversation UK and a former BBC, Press Association and national newspaper journalist with almost 20 years of experience working across print, agency, broadcast and online media. He specialises in commissioning and editing long-form journalism, and is also an experienced media trainer.


Hailey McKee
Public Relations Manager, F*ck It Won’t Cut It campaign

Hailey serves as a public relations manager for the F*ck It Won't Cut It campaign and previously was the Director of External Affairs for PRLab at Boston University (BU), the nation's oldest student-led PR agency. Originally from Dyersburg, Tennessee, Hailey earned a Master of Science in public relations from BU in December 2020, a Bachelor of Arts in public policy, and a Bachelor of Arts in broadcast journalism from the University of Mississippi in May 2019. Hailey is currently working in corporate reputation at a PR firm in Washington, D.C.


Hannah Schweitzer
Strategist and Project Manager, F*ck It Won’t Cut It campaign

Hannah is a recent December 2020 Boston University graduate majoring in advertising with a minor in history from Ann Arbor, Michigan. She serves as the strategist and project manager on the F*ck It Won't Cut It campaign. Previously, she served as the BU's student-run ad agency, AdLab. While interning at various agencies, Hannah has produced work for clients including Burger King, U.S. Department of Defense, Gorton's Seafood, Visit Colonial Williamsburg, Travis Roy Foundation, and Rogel Cancer Center.
